View - Five Minute Friday

So it’s Friday again, and this time I’m meeting the day as it begins, still up at 1:00 a.m. This week's Five Minute Friday prompt is “view.” I decided to take a look at that for a while before retiring.

Five minutes: Go.

View is larger than sight
because view sees beyond what is there
to what it means,
I think.

I have a long view
of life,
and it helps me see
what’s important,
what’s nonessential,
what’s enduring,
and what’s not.

When I say there’s a lovely view,
some people just look quickly and nod agreement,
but others know
that I mean the sight has meaning:
it is lovely because of something,
something other than its appearance.

I suppose in my world,
this one, I mean,
the one everyone can see,
appearances mean more than views.

The way I see it,
life is all about the view.

  1. I like how you described 'view'. I really like your picture - it is a beautiful VIEW! I am one always looking past surface level too. Hope you get some good rest in yet before starting the day for real. :-) (visiting from 5minFri)

    1. Thanks, April. I like views that remind me how big God is. Sometimes that's in scenery, but sometimes it's in our hearts.

I just smiled as I read the "I think," and then thought... so do I!

    1. Don't we do that - get a revelation, then doubt ourselves a little, so we say, "I think," to qualify it as an opinion. Sometimes I go on, like Winnie the Pooh, to think or say, "But I'm probably not right." I'm glad that you think it's right - at least for the two of us. :)

    2. Sorry you couldn't load the photo. I'm very new at using visual media and haven't figured out what images to use so everyone can see them. It's a picture of a dawn sky over the ocean shore (East Coast U.S.A.), with clouds beginning to break in front of the sun. One of those scenes that makes me feel small, humble, beautiful, and very special.

  3. I'd love to see the things you view as lovely. It's such a subjective thing but when someone tells me why something is beautiful, I occasionally can see their perspective which is probably nicer and better than mine! Glad you wrote this post and shared! Thanks for the personal encouragement today too! Bless you!
